flashback! metallic microbeads

Today is the first of a bunch of flashback posts that I'll do to share the coolest of things that have gone down over here since I've been on break from the blog, tonz-o-fun stuff that I hope you'll enjoy reading about!
I first saw the brilliant results of using Martha Stewart's Luster Microbeads + double-sided sticky tape to decorate paper over at Pugly Pixel. If you haven't visited Katrina's blog, you must! She is so generous—always sharing the blog graphics she creates {blog bling}. She makes fun and easy to follow tutorials for making your own blog shine with the latest in CSS, which are priceless. And she's got great style to boot!
After seeing her super sweet microbead shipping tags I went—err practically ran—to the craft store to buy my own set of the beads! I picked up the Metallic 12-pack and a 12-pack of the Iridescent Glitter. At the time I had three birthdays coming up and I knew this technique would be perfect for handmade cards!
I already had double-sided sticky tape in two different sizes, and arranging it on the card turned out to be the easy part! Not making a big mess with the microscopic beads was a whole different story! After several different maneuvers I found that using two half-sheets of paper, each with one edge against the edges of the sticky tape, made a nice little trough for the beads to fall in and not all over my desk ;)
I tried to get the maximum coverage of beads on each piece of tape and while this turned out to be a little challenging at times, seeing the beautiful results with each passing row kept me going until I was all done and face to face with... A pretty fabulous birthday card!
Oh! And I guess I should mention that I printed the words on the inside of the card first, don't think my printer would have loved me too much if I tried to run all those tiny beads through it! ;P

P.S. I really loved Katrina's part two of the tutorial too! In it she uses double-sided sticky sheets to cut out shapes to stick the beads to. Brilliant! Def gotta try that too!
