knit chicks

Hellow sweets! You know, I think Thursdays are my favorite day of the week. Or maybe it's just that I look forward to Thursdays because that's the day I meet up with my knitting buddies, Aloha Knitters. We always meet at ChadLou's, a cozy little coffee house in Kailua. ChadLou's also serves ice cream sandwiches and bubble teas, both of which I've heard are d-lish, but I always seem to get my same decaf cappuccino—we meet at 6 o'clock, and I learned really quick I can not drink a regular coffee if I want to sleep at all!
I started knitting about a year ago after being a lifelong crocheter. I had always wanted to learn how to knit, but it was honestly a little bit intimidating to me. Still I was intrigued by how much more variety there is in knitting vs. crochet, although, really hard core crocheters will fight you do the death for their fuzzy honor. I was really excited when I learned from my friend Bethany that there was a group of ladies gathering weekly to knit, and I could totally come and they would teach me! I mean, who would have thunk it? Knitting... in Hawaii?!!
Since learning this new crafty skill, I've made several scarves, a patchwork baby blanket, a braided cable headband, a shrug, a couple cowls, and right now I'm working on a pair of hippo slippers! I'll totally take pics of them when I'm all done... they are super cute! I also made this cutie... It's a pattern in the book pictured above, A Knitter's Home Companion, by Michelle Edwards.

Let me just say, this is a lovely book, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Michelle's heartwarming stories. There are also recipes and the patterns are wonderful. I knew as soon as I saw this little chicken egg warmer I had to make it! I still don't have any egg cups (hence the bottle under the egg) but then again, I really don't eat soft boiled eggs... I just love cute things and this little tiny chicken fits right into my cute category!
Do you knit or crochet? If you do, I'd love to be friends on Ravelry. If you've never heard of Ravelry, it's an online community of knitters and crocheters. There are tons of free patterns and a lot of peeps to be inspired by! You have to register to be friends. My username is, of course, hanasaurusrex! Check it out :D I'd love to see your projects

Happy Thursday!

I wish I knew how to knit. I can crochet, but knitting has always been my nemesis.
Your chick is beyond cuteness.

Love the little chick! I want to knit again, I've not done it in ages. I'm pretty crap, but I made Banoo a hat with ears once (which he lost in Paris, somewhere. I think he conveniently "dropped it". Pf!). Lemme see these hippo slippos. Yeah, that's right!
