chevron curtains

Somewhere, piled in the middle of my sewing Saturday projects were the curtains for our kitchen. I have been meaning to finish them for months now, since right around the beginning of the chevron craze. Usually, I'm not too big on having to have the latest trends. I just know what I like. And I knew as soon as I saw this photo that I wanted some of that chevron goodness in my life! So with a rug out of the question, I started to look for fabrics, and that's when I found this. Perfect.

So you have to know, I am no seamstress! I approach each project I sew with a learn-as-you-go philosophy, fingers crossed that I don't mess up and Google. Halfway through sewing these curtains, I got sidetracked looking up darning and quilting videos online—I have a blanket to quilt still.
These curtains are very very basic. As in basically, I measured the window and cut two big rectangles. After that I measured and cut the fabric for the loops, 6 for each curtain, and ironed their seams, which I totally forgot to seam on the machine. In my zealousness to finish, I pinned the loops to the pinned rectangle and began to sew it all the way around. My machine really didn't like sewing over the bulk of the curtain + loop when I go to that point, but it managed—it's suppose to be a heavy duty Singer. It was only after I finished sewing the first one and went to put the wooden rod through it that I realized I hadn't sewn the seams on the loops—umm der. Oh well. It still works and you'd never know. Next time, if there is a next time, I will remember!
Beating out the urge to stop after completing one curtain, I finished the second one—unlike the lampshades, but in my defense it was very late. And there you have it! I'll have to post pictures of them actually hung in the kitchen... when we get around to that part. :)
