more birthday fun

Yesterday's birthday was bomb! Thanks for all my happy birthday wishes! Last night, at our family birthday celebration (LJ's dad's birthday is the 20th also and he turned 77!) LJ surprised me with—well you can guess how many—balloons to honor my number of years ;) I had planned to take them out this morning to photograph letting them go, but only a few remained in the air, and even those didn't last long... maybe we can reenact the releasing of a bunch of balloons another time —even if it's not any kind of special occasion.

And the birthday celebrating isn't over yet! I am super excited that next week I get to have my own birthday party with some of my closest friends here in Hawaii. Mostly because, I've been getting to plan it all handmade and pretty! It's been since our wedding two years ago that I planned a party and I've missed it so.

I've been swooning over all the styled outdoor dining photos I've been seeing lately so I chose to have a dinner picnic in the park! The park is in Waikiki nearby the Hilton Hawaiian Village and every Friday night the Hilton has a fireworks show. I'm making a huge quilted picnic blanket for us to chill on while we drink homemade lemonade and enjoy the show! I planned a menu with a sort of Tex-mexi flare... grilled sweet peppers, zucchini and avocados, slow cooked brisket and pulled chicken quesadillas, corn and black bean salad and for dessert... cake pops and ice cream popsicles!

I will definitely post pics of some of the fun stuff I'm making for the party. Also, I planned on posting a photo journey of the quilted picnic blanket. True to form, I am perhaps being a little ambitious (I've never made a quilt before), but in my defense it's not like I'm trying to make a hand-me-down, cedar chest kind of quilt, just some big squares, sewn together with batting in the middle is what I had in mind :) Nevertheless, we shall see what kind of trouble I can manage to get into with this project! The final product is going to be 10' x 10'... *eek!*

Should be loads of fun, just like a birthday should be!

Sitting on a quilt on the beach while watching the fireworks sounds romantic ... and the party sounds like a blast (pun intended). Hope a balloon lands on our place. Have loads of fun!
